Victorian, the term resonates with us still was the Age of Endeavour, the last great flourishing of man confident and believing. It would see Britain become the first industrialised nation, the Workshop of the World and create the greatest Empire ever seen. Its dominance may have been short-lived but its grandeur remained and its heroes were many; and the Victorian's were never less than busy, with social reform and religious revivalism alongside some scepticism which some might describe as healthy and others not. It was a remarkable time in Britain and across the world.
